Best time to visit Ha Long Bay?

I’ve been to Ha Long Bay twice, and if I had to choose, I’d recommend **October to early December** or **March to April**.

October and November are probably my favorite months. The weather is usually pleasant, humidity is lower, and the skies are often clear enough for great views from the cruise. It's also less crowded than the peak summer season.

March and April are another excellent choice. Temperatures are comfortable, and the scenery is beautiful, although you might get a little morning mist on some days, which actually gives the limestone islands a pretty magical look.

I would personally avoid **July and August** if possible. That's the rainy season, so cruises can occasionally be delayed or even canceled due to tropical storms. On the other hand, **December to February** can be quite cool and foggy. Some people love the mysterious atmosphere, but if you're hoping for bright blue skies in your photos, it may not be ideal.

As for the cruise, I think **an overnight cruise is absolutely worth it** if your schedule allows. A day trip feels a bit rushed because you'll spend several hours traveling to and from the harbor. Staying overnight lets you experience the bay after most day boats have left, enjoy sunset and sunrise on the water, and take part in activities like kayaking, squid fishing, or visiting caves at a more relaxed pace.

If you're short on time, a day cruise is still enjoyable, but for a first visit, I'd definitely choose the overnight option.
